Rob – we were “only” colleagues and met only a couple of times over the years. But being part of the R&D group in Vienna we shared a similar fondness on fundamental research and these meetings, a few of them in Cheltenham, were truly memorable to us. These meetings were so much fun thanks to your welcoming personality which masked the intense work and focus we put into them. Actually, it frequently happened that you were visiting when I was having some days off. I never regretted spending some of my holidays to attend as well. It became kind of a running joke between us. Then, when we heard that your prognosis was not good, we were anxious if it was appropriate to write one last time. Of course, it was appropriate! And that you took the time to write back, I guess, that shows that you cared about others even in difficult times.
