I was devastated to learn of Rob’s passing. It’s now more than 20 years since Rob graduated from Bristol, but he was not a student one could easily forget: bright, intelligent, hard-working, considerate, blessed with a very positive outlook – and great company. The laser ablation research programme he helped launch prospered for well over a decade and helped advance the careers of more than half a dozen subsequent research students.
